Lesson 5
Choosing a Tool and Its Settings
Decide whether a job needs AI at all, what search, files and memory change, and where your words go once you press send.

Start with the job
Before you open an assistant, ask what the job actually needs. Some questions have an exact answer that lives somewhere else. Your tax code is on your payslip and in your HMRC online account. Tomorrow’s train times are in the operator’s journey planner. A sum belongs in a calculator. An assistant can explain your tax code, but it can’t see it.
Assistants shine where the job is language: explaining a confusing letter, drafting a reply, turning scrappy notes into a plan, comparing what two documents say. Use them there, and take exact lookups to the place that holds the answer.
