Water can arrive through rain penetration, ground contact, condensation or leaking services. Flooding and spills can also wet a building. More than one source may be involved.
Location, timing and visible changes help an investigation, but none is a universal diagnosis. Record what you saw and what remains unknown. Keep clear of unstable ceilings and wet electrics; an urgent hazard takes priority over completing the observation exercise.
