A roller leaves some texture; an acceptable finish does not have to resemble a sprayed surface. The aim is consistent coverage and texture for the chosen coating and the agreed viewing conditions.

A wet edge is the still-workable boundary of the area just painted. Overlapping while it remains workable can help adjacent sections blend. Dry overlaps can show, but their appearance depends on the coating, thickness, light and surface.
