Lesson 15
One Room, Start to Finish
Plan the repaint of a real room, from old gloss and a ceiling stain to a dry door, in an order where every job gets its time.
Priya's back room
Priya's back sitting room is in a 1930s semi, under the bathroom. It's February, family arrive in ten days, and she wants it repainted. This is what she has:
- emulsion walls, scuffed, with greasy hand marks round the light switch;
- a gap along the joint between the ceiling and the wall that opens up again every winter;
- a brown ring on the ceiling where the bathroom leaked, fixed last May;
- the original skirting and door, chipped, under many layers of oil gloss.
Work through it as she would. For each surface: what is it, what's on it, is it sound and dry, and what has to happen before the next job can start?
