Dealing with a Flat Tyre
Get somewhere safe first, know what’s in your boot, and change a wheel so that it stays on.
The location comes first
A flat tyre is a job for a safe place, not for wherever it happened. Get to somewhere of relative safety as soon as you safely can. On a motorway, never attempt a repair yourself, however simple. If you can’t get somewhere safe, or can’t get out of the car safely, stay inside with your seat belt on and hazard lights flashing, and call 999.
If you do get out, leave by the door away from the traffic, and wait well away from both the car and the moving traffic, behind a barrier where there is one. Check what’s on the other side of a barrier before you climb over it. Then follow your breakdown service’s instructions: an emergency area is a place to wait, not a workshop.
